The Pastor’s Pen

Here we are at the close of another busy month. This week we have packed up hygiene kits to be used for disaster relief by UMCOR and we’ve labeled and packed up Dial soap to send to Georgia prisons. This is made possible through your generous giving. Please be in prayer for those who will be receiving these items. For those who have been devastated by natural disaster and those who have made bad choices and are suffering the consequences, this is a small way of letting them know of God’s love in a very tangible way. We will continue collecting items for the Open Door Community House until next Sunday, October 8^th, when we will celebrate UMW Sunday and be privileged to hear from the Open Door’s director, Kim Jenkins, about their important ministry. Following the service next Sunday, make plans to attend our covered dish lunch! This coming Saturday our church is also privileged to host the South Georgia Conference UMW district officers as they come for a day of training.

If you’ve not picked up your shopping list and box for the annual Thanksgiving box outreach, they will be available in the narthex once again this week. For those who got your shopping list last Sunday, please note that it has the wrong date on it for turning in your completed box. The day to turn it in will be Sunday, November 19^th. Each week for the next 8 weeks you are asked to purchase one of the items on your shopping list and put 2 dollars in your Turkey Bucks envelope. At the end of 8 weeks you will have all of the items needed to make a complete Thanksgiving dinner for a family in need.  On the afternoon of November 19^th, we will deliver these boxes throughout the community.

Plans are already underway for our Annual Fall Festival. We have a great time of fellowship scheduled on Sunday, October 29^th, for both young and old! We need your help! We are looking for volunteers to man the activity and craft stations for the kids. We also need cakes for the cake walk and chili cooks for the Pinson Chili Cook-off! I have a sign-up sheet in the office. See Pam or me if you have any questions and to sign up.

Each Sunday there is a group of us meeting in the sanctuary for a 9 o’clock service. This is a service that focuses on liturgy, prayer, communion, and Scripture. It is a meaningful way to begin your Sabbath worship. I encourage you to give it a try! As this Sunday is World Communion Sunday, in the early service our focus will be on Christian unity. In the 11 o’clock service our focus will be on communion and the Lord’s Table. Our communion offering this Sunday will go towards endowing our altar fund. This fund is used to address needs that come up within our church family and local community.

Our verse for the week speaks to Sunday’s theme of unity: “For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” (Romans 12:4-5)

Love and Blessings to you all! I look forward to seeing you this Sunday!
